Door opening in Calpe, matched to the door you are behind
A flat door on the twelfth floor, a timber door inside the old walls and a villa entrance up in Maryvilla are three different jobs. Here is how each one is approached, and why the lock usually survives.

By door
How each kind of Calpe door is opened
Flat doors in the seafront towers
Usually a door on the latch or a deadlocked armoured door. A latched door is opened by working the latch, with no mark left. A deadlocked one is opened through the cylinder: manipulated where the lock allows it, and only drilled when it does not.
Timber doors in the old town
Houses on lanes like Carrer Puchalt and Sant Roc can still have old doors with surface-mounted locks or long-bolted mortice locks. They reward patience; forcing them splits the timber, and old doors are expensive to repair.
Villa entrances on the hill
Maryvilla, Ortembach, Oltamar and Gran Sol villas often have a gate, a front door and large glazed terrace doors. We open whichever is quickest and does least harm, which is not always the front door.
Apartments in La Manzanera
In La Muralla Roja and the older blocks around it, the first job is finding the right door among the courtyards and stairs. Send the staircase and block, and the door is simple after that.
Method
The order we try things in
-
Latch
If the door only closed on the latch, it is opened without touching the lock at all.
-
Cylinder, without damage
Picking or bypass tools, where the cylinder design allows. The lock keeps working afterwards.
-
Cylinder, sacrificed
Only when the first two will not work. The door is untouched and a new cylinder goes in straight away.
Keys left inside the lock?
A key left in the inside of a euro cylinder blocks many opening methods. Say so on the phone: it changes which tools we bring. If the cylinder has to go, the lock replacement page explains which one to put in.
Terrace slider or uPVC door stuck shut? That mechanism is a separate job: sliding and multipoint doors.
Who we open doors for
Shut out at night? The urgent call-out service covers what happens after hours. Whoever calls, we check first:
- Owners and long-term tenants, with ID or a contract
- Holiday guests, once the owner or agency confirms
- Property managers, with written authorisation for each property
- Families of elderly residents, together with a key holder or the police where needed
Hosts with several apartments can arrange authorisation once: see the holiday let service.
Walking the last stretch
Inside the old walls the lanes are stepped and cobbled, so the van stops at the edge and the tools come up by hand. Tell us the nearest square or stair and the right kit comes up first time.
Door opening questions
Will my door survive the opening?
On a door that was simply pulled shut, almost never. On a deadlocked door with a good anti-snap cylinder, the cylinder is sometimes sacrificed so the door itself is untouched. You are told which it will be, and what it costs, before work starts.
I have an armoured door. Can it still be opened?
Yes. Armoured doors are fitted in a great many Spanish apartment blocks, and they take longer to open, not forever. Tell us the make if you know it, or send a photo of the lock, and the right tools come with us.
What proof do you need before opening?
Something that links you to the address: identification with the address, a rental contract, a utility bill on your phone, or the owner or agency confirming by phone. In a building with a concierge, the concierge often settles it.
The street door of my block is locked too. Can you open that?
We would rather not force a communal door that belongs to the whole building. A neighbour, the concierge or the administrator can usually let you in, and we open your own door from there.
How much does opening a door cost?
It depends on the lock, whether it is deadlocked, and the time of day. You get the price on the phone first.
Which door is it?
Send a photo of the lock on WhatsApp or describe it on the phone. You will know how it will be opened and what it costs.
