Mechanisms, not whole doors
Multipoint doors
Front and back doors in uPVC or aluminium that lock at three or more points when the handle is lifted. Gearboxes, hooks, rollers and keeps replaced individually.
Terrace and balcony sliders
Aluminium sliders in flats and villas: locks that will not catch, handles that spin, rollers that have collapsed, doors that jump the track.
Doors that have dropped
The door rubs the frame, the key only turns if you lift or push, and eventually it will not lock. Hinges and keeps are adjusted back into line before anything is replaced.

Signs the mechanism is going
- You have to push or lift the door for the key to turn
- The handle feels loose or drops back down
- The slider needs two hands to move
- Daylight or a draught along one edge
- A grinding or clicking noise as you lock
Caught at this stage it is an adjustment. Left until the door jams shut, it becomes a door that has to be opened first.
Look after a slider by the sea
Vacuum the track every few weeks in summer, rinse salt off the frame, and use a dry lubricant. More on salt air and locks.

uPVC and aluminium door questions
My terrace slider will not lock any more. Is it the lock?
Often it is the rollers or the alignment: the door has dropped a few millimetres and the hook no longer meets the keep. Adjusting the rollers and the keep is usually cheaper than a new lock, and we check that first.
The handle goes up but the door will not lock. What has failed?
Most likely the gearbox, the central part of the multipoint mechanism behind the handle. It can be replaced on its own without changing the whole strip, provided the make can be identified.
Can you get parts for an old or unknown door?
Older doors often come from manufacturers that no longer exist. We identify the mechanism by its measurements rather than the brand, and where an exact part is gone, fit a compatible one.
Should I oil a stiff aluminium slider?
Not with cooking oil or heavy grease, which collect sand and salt. Clean the track, vacuum out the grit, and use a silicone or dry PTFE spray on the rollers and the lock.
How much does a multipoint repair cost?
It depends on whether it is an adjustment, a gearbox or a full strip. A photo of the edge of the door with the mechanism visible lets us price it before visiting.
